Currently a third-year PhD student at the University of Victoria interested in exploring the concepts of making, digital fabrication, wearables, and customization. I currently have four years of experience conducting human computer interaction research.
As a researcher, I am interested in understanding how people can alter, recreate, or redesign their current devices and belongings to better suit their personal needs and better express themselves. Personal devices are innately telling of their owners, and therefore, there is great value in understanding how the alteration of such devices for increased self-expression can change the ways in which people interact with or use such devices. This stretches to include the exploration of do-it-yourself activities such as sewing or tinkering with electronics, and stretches to the inclusion and introduction of digital fabrication creation avenues such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
This research direction stems from my involvement and interests in all forms of art from a young age. Through my work, I aim to intersect the disciplines of art and technology such that individuals are empowered to be creative while also designing and developing meaningful artifacts for personal use.
